How to manage custom field groups?

The custom field groups allows you to group custom fields by a specific type of product that you can setup.  In this section you'll learn how to manage the custom field groups

Manage Custom Field Groups

All the custom fields groups will be shown on this page, from here you can create, edit and delete custom field groups.  The Default custom field group cannot be deleted from your store. But you can disable it or simply remove all attached custom fields.  

  • Enabled - a green checkmark indicates the custom field group  is enabled in your store while a red x indicates it is disabled.  You can enable/disable the custom field group by clicking the edit icon.
  • Processing - when changes are made to a custom field group communication with the server takes place in order to make updates.  “Completed” will display when all updates have been successfully made to the items in BigCommerce.
  • Created At - the date when the custom field group  was created.
  • Edit  - see below documentation for “editing a custom field group”
  • Trash - click to delete the custom field group .  This is an unrecoverable action. 

Edit Custom Field Group

To edit an existing custom field group, navigate to the “Custom Field Groups” area of the Custom Field Populator and click on the edit icon.  From the edit screen, you can:

  • Name - Name of the custom field group, it's only used so you know what the custom field group does.
  • Select Custom Fields - You can select all the custom fields that belong to this custom field group.  
  • Custom Field Set Type - Allows the custom field to be setup for All products or a specific selection of products. 
    • On All Products - sets this custom field group to be on All products
    • Selected Products - Allows you to select products based on the below conditions
  • Select Products that will be included -  This allows you to select products that will create the selected custom fields based on the following properties.  
    • Name
    • Price
    • Sku
    • Brand
    • Categories
    • Availability
    • Inventory Level
    • In Stock
    • Is Visible
    • Is Featured
    • Is Free Shipping
    • Weight
    • Condition
  • Enable/Disable - Enables or Disables the Custom field Group.  If disabled then custom fields selected in the group will not be added to new products if they match the selected product listing
  • Add selected custom fields for All products in custom field group within BigCommerce? - If you want to add the selected custom fields to all your items, toggle the switch to yes.  By default, this is set to no.  If you had this previously toggled off, and would like to now add it to all items, make sure to click on Add Custom Field to All Products in BigCommerce” once you save.

Create Custom Field Group

To add a custom field, navigate to the “Custom Field Groups” area of the Custom Field Populator and click on Create.  From the Create Custom Field screen, you can:

  • Name - Name of the custom field group, it's only used so you know what the custom field group does.
  • Select Custom Fields - You can select all the custom fields that belong to this custom field group.  
  • Custom Field Set Type - Allows the custom field to be setup for All products or a specific selection of products. 
    • On All Products - sets this custom field group to be on All products
    • Selected Products - Allows you to select products based on the below conditions
  • Select Products that will be included -  This allows you to select products that will create the selected custom fields based on the following properties.

Delete Custom Field Group

To delete an existing custom field group, navigate to the “Custom Field groups” area of the Custom Field Populator and click on the trash can icon.  This does not delete the selected custom fields from the store, this just removes the custom field group from the Custom Field populator app.
