How to manage custom fields?
The Custom Fields Settings area is where you can add, edit, enable/disable, or delete custom fields from your BigCommerce store.
Manage Custom Fields
All custom fields that are currently imported into the Custom Field Populator will be shown on this screen:
- Enabled - a green checkmark indicates the custom field is enabled in your store while a red x indicates it is disabled. You can enable/disable the custom field by clicking the edit icon.
- Processing - when changes are made to a custom field communication with the server takes place in order to make updates. “Completed” will display when all updates have been successfully made to the items in BigCommerce.
- Created At - the date when the custom field was created.
- Edit - see documentation for “editing a custom field.”
- Trash - click to delete the custom field. This is an unrecoverable action.
Editing an Existing Custom Field
To edit an existing custom field, navigate to the “Custom Fields” area of the Custom Field Populator and click on the edit icon. From the edit screen, you can:
- Custom Field Name - Change the Custom Field Name
- Custom Field Default Value - Enter a Custom Field Default Value such as the numerical value “0” which is universal for “off.”
- Enable or Disable by toggling the switch. Enabling will make the field active on items, therefore turning on whatever functionality the field controls. Disabling it will turn off whatever functionality the field controls. Enabling or disabling does not remove the custom field from items. By default, this is enabled.
- Select Custom Field Group - allows you to select the group that the custom field belongs to. For more information about how custom fields groups work click here.
- Add this custom field in All products in Bigcommerce? - If you want to add this custom field to all your items, toggle the switch to yes. By default, this is set to no. - Click on Upload Custom Fields
- Click on Download Upload Template
- In the template, type [delete] (in brackets, case insensitive) into the fields you want to delete.
- Upload the file back to Custom Field Populator
